No Room For That Here…

February 1st, 2004 · No Comments

Jeff Jarvis has a post today about the so-called “not-reported-here syndrome” as he calls it, that occurs at many publications, and in this case, specifically the New York Times.

He proffers the use of weblogs as the fix for this, which I think I’m in agreement with. We’re all out here using various weblog tools to post articles and items “not seen everywhere” in the same way that pubs like to put out stories in front of other pubs in order go grab readers. Sites like UnderReported.com can’t be the only place that stories show up after being read in some random newspaper in some random AnyTown, USA type of place. Publications have one goal in mind, and that’s gaining eyeballs and keeping them. What other way to do so than to keep “all the news that’s fit to print”, as the slogan goes, in front of your readers… Are blogs the solution to that? Perhaps. The “Remaindered Links” section on sites like Jason Kottke’s are the kind of idea we’re going for here, with perhaps a short and sweet text about them. Abstracts, of sorts.

Not a bad idea, Dan and Jeff.
