Yahoo! News picks up this AP article by Jim Krane that reports about the number of civilians who work in the press office in Iraq having close ties to the Republican party.

I think that this article might have some immediate fears, but think about the 50-50 split that currently exists in our country’s political system. What does cause some concern is the ability to lean politically towards George Bush and create buzz around good news - which is something that has been rumored to be going on for months now. For instance….

One CPA staffer who spoke on condition of anonymity said the press office had sent targeted “good news” releases to American television, radio and newspaper outlets that were timed to deflect criticism of Bush during the Democratic primaries.

It’s kind of like making announcements about your company on a day when your competitors are making earnings announcements or something else of note, and riding on the coattails of the news buzz. That process is illegal for public companies, but that doesn’t stop them from doing it one way or another. Smart strategy, but not looked as being very legit.
