Yesterday’s post about an AP article stating that Iraq was the worst place for journalists to be seems to have some competition from the #5 worst place to be from that study - Bangladesh.
According to this article by Patricia Nunan at Voice of America, Bangladesh is the worst place for journalists. The study points out that while no journalist were killed, the threats and assaults are constant.
The study says not a day went by in 2003 without a Bangladeshi journalist being physically attacked or threatened with death.
Now that’s obviously a debatable statement, because I’m sure journalists here in the U.S. are threatened on a daily basis - but you know what the study’s creators are trying to say. Yet another reason to thank your lucky stars for a free press.
