News.com’s Declan McCullagh proclaims the reasons “why the FCC should die” in an article this morning.
Highlight for me: “If the FCC had been in charge of overseeing the Internet, we’d likely be waiting for the Mosaic Web browser to receive preliminary approval from the Wireline Competition Bureau.” Now that’s quality.
McCullagh presents some very interesting arguments, including [gasp!] leaving the purchase of various broadcasting spectrum to the companies themselves, with the wireless industry potentially growing in a big way. Also having a big gain would be the federal budget, as $300 million per year could go to something else - like our pockets.
