Don’t make the FCC worse than it is

December 14th, 2004 · No Comments

Oliver Willis has posted an “Action Alert” on his site Tuesday afternoon for his readers to effectively ‘turf the FCC with a message regarding one word on uttered by Rush Limbaugh on the conservative talker’s radio program earlier today.

Somebody please call Jeff Jarvis. The use of the FCC for complaints should be for legitimate incidents of egregious behavior, language, or nudity - not penny-ante stuff. Filing complaints to the FCC in this kind of manner makes just as much of a negative impression as does the feeling some people have about the Parents Television Council being behind many of the complaints that land in the FCC’s mailbox every day.

This shouldn’t be about politics. If you want to foster a nanny state, and/or use the government for reasons surrounding your dislike for certain partisan individuals, go ahead. But don’t think that it’s the right thing to do, or it makes you any better than your “opponents.” This isn’t about proving whether one side or the other is being favored.
