Don’t think that some terrestrial radio outlets are in trouble these days because of the competition coming from satellite radio, mp3 devices, and the Internet? Think again. The Chicago Sun-Times‘ Robert Feder has details about an alternative-rock station in that market, 101.1 WKQX-FM, which is jacking its “playlist” up five times over, and saying that is now “on shuffle.”
More: WKQX isn’t alone in making changes to grab (keep?) listeners.

Q 101 hasn’t been a relevant player in Chicago in some time. They really fell apart about six or seven years ago by over-emphasizing heavy alt-rock that only seemed to appeal to a very small (apparently too small) niche audience.
If you’re in Chicago and looking for a radio station that has always had a huge playlist of music from the 60’s through today you listen to 93.1 WXRT. Blues followed by New Wave rock followed by Norah Jones followed by Jimi Hendrix…. so on and so forth.
