The Media Drop

By now most of you have heard what the networks are going to be doing with their shows for next season, and I wanted to chime in on one thing I thought was amusing, regarding CBS’ decision to ditch post-nuke drama Jericho. Check out this post, where one blogger tells CBS what it can do.

I have, for a few years, really felt like the networks didn’t have a clue anymore about what would and would not stick when it came to television shows, whether they were comedy, drama, or whatever. Now, it almost feels like they’re trigger happy. Unfortunately, we’re in this world of viewership where the numbers are “down” but there isn’t perfectly done calculation of every single viewer using a DVR, and, like it or not, zero counting of the people who have illegally downloaded the shows off of torrent sites or elsewhere on the Internet, on non-company owned sites. Maybe those numbers aren’t staggering, but they all count when we’re in a world of single-digit ratings.
