Thilk sends along this story from today’s Chicago Tribune about how Tribune will be distributing - sans in-city boxes and newsstands - the Chicago Sun-Times on behalf of that publisher. But the kicker just so happens to be in the middle of Phil Rosenthal’s column:
Sources also said the Tribune’s profit from the arrangement will exceed the Sun-Times’ savings, even with the added expenses associated with quadrupling its commercial delivery business and a 60 percent increase in the number of copies it distributes. Beyond cost savings, Sun-Times Media Group anticipates improved service, both for readers and advertisers.
O RLY? was my response to Chris’ IM when he sent me the link, and how could you ever think otherwise. So while this isn’t a JOA or anything like that, it’s kind of like saying that Wal-Mart will gladly distribute to any of your retail stores within Bentonville, AR, because hey, “we’re good there.”
