In Tuesday’s New York Times, Bill Carter writes about the news coming out Monday evening about NBC preparing to relaunch the late night shows of Jay Leno and Conan O’Brien, even with the Writers’ Guild strike still going strong. They won’t have writers and may or may not have monologues, and may not even end up getting guests, no one’s quite sure. What appears to be sure is that the producers feel that because the talent is currently paying salaries of the non-writers, “an exception might be made.”
It’s an interesting move nonetheless, either proving that the nets are trying to move along a little bit, or that they’re just done with playing reruns over and over again.
