WSJ to keep online subscription wall

The Wall Street Journal’s Emily Steel reports this afternoon that News Corp. boss Rupert Murdoch wouldn’t be lifting the pay wall on the online version of the WSJ. Realistically, most of us media-followers didn’t *really* expect the pay wall to fall down, but there had been such detailed reporting on the topic that at least we knew that News Corp. was really looking into it.

Over the long haul, I still can’t say what I think the WSJ will be able to garner through inbound links and such (or the lack of them), but if they continue to be smart and release, for public consumption, the stories that many “mainstream” people who wouldn’t necessarily read the Journal on any given day, perhaps they’ll be able to attract further paid subs online.
