  • Further making me want to shoot myself in the head is the quote Gruber pulled from an article on Techdirt, about TiVo vs. a video-on-demand product.
  • If you guessed $2.4 billion for the value of Getty Images’ archive, you win!
  • Romenesko notes the WaPo’s latest style changes. “Gay” is now in, “illegal aliens” are now “illegal immigrants.” The best part of these is if you’re sick of it all, you can just say “eh, semantics.”
  • No more Dr. Robert Jarvik for you, Lipitor advertising, reports the New York Times’s Stephanie Saul. Congress and others felt they were misleading with the inventor of the Jarvik artificial heart participating in something having to do with diagnosis and such, when he’s not licensed to practice medicine.
  • MTV’s being criticized for running more than 12 minutes of ads per hour in Europe last year. Wonder if we can incent it to play actual music videos. Oh, wait, why would we want that.
  • OMG, it’s the “Family Ties” theme song. Thanks, Jossip!
  • Rex Hammock suggests that TIME and Newsweek endorsing a presidential candidate would get some people to read their publications. I gotta say I completely disagree. I could give a darn what candidate - for anything, dogcatcher to king - that a publication, news outlet, celebrity, or athlete, could endorse. For some reason, as much as I can appreciate marketing and the concepts of endorsements, I could almost care less what celebrity or publication I “trust” has to say in this area. Anyone else?
  • paidContent’s David Kaplan got some skinny on a report from Fortune saying that CBS might not be rocking hot earnings anytime soon.

I didn’t suggest that Time & Newsweek endorse candidates. That was a link to a Marketplace columnist who suggested it. My response to it was that it would only please half of the readers. Frankly, I’m with your: I couldn’t care less who they’d endorse.

Thanks for the clarification, Rex - think I just read you a little bit off base there, but it makes more sense now that I re-read.
