Voice of America's Anya Ardayeva reports that Paul Klebnikov, the editor of the Russian-language edition of Forbes, was shot and killed on Friday after leaving the publication's offices. There are already reports that the murder was related to Klebnikov's work, including articles critical of "old money" Russian businesspeople.
Ardayeva also states that "Mr. Klebnikov is among more than a dozen Russian journalists who have been murdered in Russia since the demise of the Soviet Union." What makes this even more cause for concern is this statistic from Pravda: the Forbes editor was the sixth journalist killed in Russia so far in 2004.
