A few months ago, it came out that President Bush likes his news filtered by his staffers and takes whatever information they deem necessary as what is important for the day.

A lot of people (including myself) thought that was just ludicrous and how could he really go about being that sequestered from reality. With a lot of rumours floating around about the "Free Speech Zones" that were reportedly set up by the Secret Service, this wasn't too far of a reach for most people. These "zones" reportedly kept any and all dissenting voices a ways away from not only wherever the President might be speaking, but out of reach for the motorcade the President was traveling in. While this may have some truth to it, it doesn't seem to have anything to do with the filtering of the news or the President's staffers trying to keep him away from what is going on "out here".

Well, you can toss the first theory out the window, at least according to Bob Schieffer's article yesterday entitled "The Value of The Press", in which Schieffer quotes First Lady Laura Bush as saying that not only do they read the paper, they read "five of them" every morning. This could be a touché to reinforce Bush's standing with voters, but it's kind of tough to refute the quotes that the WaPo's Michael Kinsley put in the first article referenced here.

We'll see if this gains steam in the public's eye, or continues to float under the radar, as people seemingly ignore the quality reporting that Mr. Schieffer continues to put out over at CBS.
